The Bluetooth Special Interest group have announced that on April 21st, they’ll officially announce the details, regarding their updated Bluetooth profile, 3.0. Within 3.0, The new update will allow for less disconnects, and faster transfer speeds. According to Dvice:
“an entire music library, a complete DVD, a vacation’s worth of photos, all within seconds at the touch of a button and wirelessly will now be possible.”
What will this mean for the Playstation 3? If Sony updates the PS3 Bluetooth profile, perhaps your headsets will have better connection, and perhaps Sony will allow transfer of digital content between the PS3 and other Bluetooth devices. As of this writing, Sony have not commented about updating the PS3 BT profile.

I’m assuming this new Bluetooth 3.0 requires new hardware, so its pointless to the PS3 or any other device with bluetooth out already
Whether it is a hardware or software problem isn’t the issue.. If there is a new BT profile, Sony can take advantage of it by implementing it into new PS3s.
Why would they raise the cost of the PS3 by implementing support for BT 3.0 via a HW revision?
Perhaps it wouldn’t be implemented immediately. But the possibilities and potential 3.0 brings cannot be looked over.
Just imagine the interconnectivity between your PS3, your BT enabled computer, and your handheld. It would truly make the PS3 a media center.

The report seems to strongly indicate this is hardware based.
Although, its mis-leading on the speed. It doesn’t mean you can transfer an entire dvd in seconds, it means you can access them. Streaming a DVD requires a pretty good data speed rate though, so it’s plenty good enough!!!
most likely hardware change
Well.. for your kind information fellas… the new Bluetooth profile requires a new hardware, which mean it cannot be accommodated to the PlayStation 3. And if ever Sony does it on the new batch of ps3s.. it is not gonna make sense at all..how about the current ps3 owners? It would end up with unsatisfied customers.. and i don’t ever think Sony is going to make mistakes like MS did with the HD DVD
I think they would wait to implement this with the PS4 since there are very little compliants about the current Bluetooth services. My thoughts are that if they want to do more transferring with devices they can open up the profile restrictions just on the sw side. No need for hardware changes.
